Don Henricos

Spotted! This long forgotten resto is still at it. My personal favorite is their onion rings with all it's crunchiness. Look at that pic. Yummmmyyyy. Their menu is mainly Italian food with the pizzas and the pastas which are cheap and is good for sharing.

Mushroom Burger

Spotted! Here I am again looking for the so called healthy food. We all know Mushroom Burger from Tagaytay right? So I finally went to West avenue to check it out (at long last after so many years). Well honestly, nothing really spectacular. They just had 'the' concept of putting mushrooms in the burger imho. Nothing spectacular not unless you are a fan of mushrooms. Well for 120 pesos for their 'King' meal, you get the double mushroom beef patties, fries, and soda. They also have rice meals by the way. What caught my attention too was their sweet mushroom dessert. Ewww. Overall, I wouldn't even wanna repeat my mushroom burger experience. Haha

King Chef Banawe

Spotted! We all love Chinese food correct? Yes. You have to agree. King Chef is found at the back of Starbucks Banawe with all those Chinese restos along that strip. It's actually good. You get the authentic feeling with the Chinese music in the background. Once you enter, you teleport yourself to China. In the pic is shrimps with broccoli which I am sure will make your MSG hungry tongue crazy.

Truevali!'s best of local TV for 2010

With our super hectic, busy and ridiculously expensive lifestyles, your Truevali! superstars turn to the boob tube (the only boob we actually like) for refuge during times we just want to be entertained. Good to note that this year has actually been one of the best years for local television! ABS-CBN continues to be the only worthy station for your superstars to tune in to while TV5 showed promise in their latest offerings. GMA of course, with the worst lineup of stars and shows which include the ultimate has-been Jolina Magdangal, class-less Yasmien Kurdi, worst-lead-actress-starrer Grazilda, and the dreadful Party Pilipinas, is the least-watched station, if not abandoned at all.

The cream of the crop for 2010 are:

At no. 5) Cristy Fermin, Mo Twister, IC Mendoza, Alex Gonzaga and Shalala make up the best and most enjoyable showbiz talk show in Philippine showbiz history. Juicy changes the showbiz talk landscape from the awkward, self-promoting and safe to the fearless, fun and fierce. Here they are discussing a few blind items about some local gay personalities!

At no. 4) Gay icon Angelica Panganiban plays the bida-kontrabida Rubi in this 2010 hit drama. With the usual tacky lines and far-from-reality plotlines, Rubi transforms and becomes a romantic gem on TV. Here's one of their most infamous love scenes with Rubi and the dreamy Jake Cuenca.

No. 3) Gay television has invaded primetime with the fashion industry-centric Magkaribal. Who would've thought such a gay-themed show will rate in this ultra-conservative Filipino society?! Although production value of this show is far from the world it's actually trying to portray, it triumphs in the tackiness of the plot, the lines and the scenes. Nothing beats the self-absorbing Gretchen Barretto in a role she was born to play. Add to that the gay but still hot Enchong Dee portraying a slum hottie complete with jolog highlights only he can pull off. Here he is in trunks with the beautiful Erich Gonzales:

At no. 2) ASAP XV is a far cry from the variety shows of the US or UK, and it wasn't particularly groundbreaking this year since it's always been consistent. It's just that this show is so good and the talent is just overflowing. Add to that the fact that its timeslot rival is sooo horrible. The truth is, which Filipino never dreamt of being part of its show, strutting their stuff with best choreographers and dancers, belting it out with the likes of Sarah G, Jed Madela, Yeng Constantino or Gary V, or just being able to ogle at the arms, chest and abs of Gerald Anderson, Enchong Dee, Jericho Rosales or Rayver Cruz? Your Sunday's sure to be incomplete without your afternoon party.

And without question, the top local show of 2010 is Showtime. I think even ABS-CBN is a bit surprised how this turned out to be such a big hit. There's so much to like about this show, but one particular mainstay makes it such an enjoyable TV experience. Vice Ganda has transformed to be the heart of the show and I'm quite sure that it will fall hard once he decides to leave.

UltraCozyChic Romulo's Cafe

Its a tradition and part of every becky's life to spend Christmas with true friends. The signs of the times; traffic and busy schedules will not stop us from having the Yuletide spirit.
As part of the ongoing search for the ultrachic resto in MNL we decided to drop at Romulos and give it a try. (Also a partner resto of www.quickdelivery.com.ph).

Romulo's Cafe boast cozy and sophisticated feel upon entering this food hub. Greeted by wall of green vines and a black and white framed wall will define serene. It offers several rooms that I feel is great for functions or any event. Interior was superb starting of with french doors, iron lighting and padded wall with vintage Chinese cabinets made into a cupboard. Indeed this is heaven for those like me who appreciates Noritake plates.

They cater limited range of Filipino though but having lengua and gising gising in the menu is more than enough. I suggest you guys to call and reserve since the place is packed especially for late lunches.

Chikaan sa Cebu Restaurant

Offering Filipino cuisine, this restaurant is located along Salinas Drive in Lahug, just right across Golden Cowrie.

We ordered Baked Cheese Scallops, Fried Chicken, Lumpiang Shanghai, Ginataang Monggo and for dessert - Biko. Out of all these the must try is the Ginataang Monggo, just like the Pampanga's Lelut Balutang, this soup is divine. The Biko, with that thick "latik" or Fried Coconut Milk Solids, is also worth the taste.

The ambiance is just like Kamayan or Barrio Fiesta, nothing special. The service is exceptional. The facility is clean. The crowd is dominated by the Tsinoys. The waiters could have been cuter. Char! Till next Lala Aunor.

Level Ei8ht Bar Cebu

Penthouse party with Mojitos to die for at Level Ei8ht in Cebu. This is the life!

The club is located at the 8th floor or Rooftop of the Adnama building at the North Reclamation Area. Tell the cab driver that its near Cebu Doctors and they would immediately know where to go.

Best day to go is not Saturdays nor Fridays, cause there a lot of juveniles partying, not really an aura chillax moment. In any other days, the place is so steady and low dense. In this way, you can enjoy your Mojitos and Martinis as you look at the stars and as you ogle at the testosterone filled hunkaboodles.

Best side dish to order is the spicy Hungarian Mushroom. Be sure to not drink too much water as you chow this for it will worsen the burning feeling in your mouth.

Too bad for Manila, we do not have a penthouse bar like this one in Cebu. Unless the new Eastwood MDC building with revolving penthouse restaurant will have a lounge like this. Oh well, I'm too old to party anyway. Char!

Pino Restaurant Cebu Buffet

Now serving buffet, Pino is the staple chic restaurant in Cebu city. Located in uptown Wilson street in Lahug, the place offers the delectably demanding socialites in the city a respite from today's fast food culture.

Name dropping mode, the establishment is managed by restaurateur Joel del Prado and is the brainchild of gourmet excepcionale alta de sociedad, Amparito Llamas Lhuillier. Too bad, I was not able to take more photos, for I am rushing in famished. If you're in Cebu, do not miss to dine at Pino Restaurant. Till next Lala Aunor.

Stuff you'd be loving this 2011 Part 2: Bagwis vs. Machete

Nothing says primetime like a head-on collision between two shirtless and hunky supernatural characters. First, the best-looking man in local showbiz, Gerald Anderson was announced to be playing a shirtless winged man who saves damsels in distress. ABS-CBN, we will be utterly disappointed if this superhero is not in its shirtless nature. Let's respect the creator (who's probably gay) of this character. Chos.

Not to be outdone, GMA then releases its hunky and lustful counterpart Aljur Abrenica who will be playing the hunky wooden sculpture Machete who becomes real every now and then. This is sure to cause woods to erect. Char.

Now isn't this shirtless battle enough to 'excite' you for 2011. Only thing that will make it better? When TV5 joins in on the fun and makes Kulafu with another shirtless hunk! Which young actors would you want to see shirtless everyday? Ang lalandi nyo! Char.

Lotsa hugs and kisses bitches!

Christmas in Cebu

It seems like the Christmas spirit has taken over Cebu, holiday fairs galore abound as I have encountered well-wishers singing Christmas Carols in the city's JY square, the commercial area corner Salinas drive, adjacent to the E-Performax building.

The children, in competition, sounded so angelic that I couldn't help but stop, take a breather from my jostling and listen as I was reminded of those days when Yuletide carols were the penultimate sign of the coming of the joyful season.

How I wish I was young again, thin, sexy, youthful, wearing only a red flowy robe with white faux fur details, with platform shoes on and red lace head band, strutting with my childhood sweetheart towards the door step, beneath our garland mistletoe, singing Silent Night, awaiting the carol's end, subsequently succumbing to my first sensual homosexual kiss. *sigh* Char!

The QuickDelivery Service Experience: Banana Leaf Asian Cafe

We attracted Quickdelivery! Now here's a review on our first QuickDelivery Service Experience. We also chose Banana Leaf Asian Cafe as our first restaurant to review for this campaign.

Ordering on the phone via Quick Delivery

So we went ahead and ordered via their hotline 2121212 . Note though that you can also order via their website ~ http://www.quickdelivery.ph/.

The agent was pleasant on the phone and was very polite. We noticed though that the agent was weak on taking the delivery address, it took 3 tries for the address to be taken into account. Mind you, asking the customer to spell their home address is perfectly fine.

Yet the order taking was fast, we loved that as it made up for lost time. However, when were asking the difference between one menu from another, the agent had to call the restaurant to check specifics of the food as we waited on hold. Perfectly fine for us, its better to be sure, though we felt that it would have been better if the agent knew the menu already or a more efficient way would be a system to be put in place so the agent can just pull out menu information once customer asks or once an agent may need to suggest an order to a customer.

After the order taking, the agent provided a running total of the bill, which is good for those on a budget. We were informed also of the 10% delivery charge, which is very important to know.

The Quick Delivery

The usual estimated time of delivery is between 60 to 90 minutes. Our Quick Delivery took less than an hour at exactly 59 minutes, so were very satisfied as it was beyond our expectations. Note that our area in Capitol Hills is normally not served by this merchant, but we are happy to know that for special cases and for very important loyal customers, Quick Delivery will deliver anywhere.

The Polite Delivery boy, John, addressed the clients, yours truly, personally (which means by first name). We loved the causal approach of addressing us via our first name as it immediately ushers in friendliness.

Most importantly, the food by Banana Leaf which was delivered by the Quick Delivery Service came in fresh ~ meaning hot. Love!

The food was packed in a Banana Leaf plastic bag and in styros. Overall, the food was handled and packaged very well especially those with sauces. What I loved most was that the container used were microwavable. Very convenient Quick Delivery, good job!

We were also provided with a Quick Delivery booklet, which is very helpful for our next delivery food binge.

Banana Leaf Delivery

We ordered the classics entrees of Banana Leaf so we'll have the experience of the usual orders we get when we dine in their restaurant.

From top to bottom, we ordered Korean BBQ Chicken Steak, Chicken Satay, Pad Thai and Sweet and Sour Pork.

The Pad Thai was not the best but its worth a try. I must say that it has a weak taste, compared to other restaurants like Oody's, who offers the same dish. It lacked noodles yet it has more of tofu.

The Chicken Satay is too curried for me, for L and Pura it was perfectly fine. The peanut sauce balances the taste.

The Sweet and Sour Pork and Korean BBQ Chicken Steak was the best. I will not have second thoughts ordering this again. Em, Vina and Patti agrees ~ this was our best order!

We also ordered Bagoong Rice which was lovely.

Judgement

Overall the experience was great and indeed Quick Delivery provides service beyond expectations. Truevali recommends you try it too.

Eargasmic 2010: the best pop songs of the year

Heller fellow music lovers! 2010 has been a really good year for music! Katy Perry's Teenage Dream album is a smash, so is Rihanna's comeback! Eminem had big songs without the usual controversy and Ke$ha has been named the Billboard Artist of The Year. With that, pop music is back and better than ever before. And I'm here to share with you what I believe are the 10 best pop tracks of the year!

Starting off with...

10) Secrets by OneRepublic

9) Only Girl (In The World) by Rihanna

8) Hey, Soul Sister by Train

7) Love The Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna

6) Fuck You by Cee-Lo Green

5) Need You Now by Lady Antebellum

4) California Gurls by Katy Perry

3) Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars

2) Commander by Kelly Rowland

and the best song of 2010 is Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, here she is performing alongside handsome Glee star Darren Criss:

What about you bitches, what's your fave song of the year? Don't tell me it's from Glee, 'cause that means you're gayer than I thought.

Krocodile Grill Sisig, Tofu and Adobo Flakes Rice

When I'm feeling Purita Amor, I just go and dine at Krocodile Grill. I always order their Crunchy Sisig, their Adobo Flakes Fried Rice and Stuffed Tofu. Add to this is an ice cold Red Horse Beer.

Very no aura I know, peppermint eksena. But at least its not Mang Inasal, cause we cannot be seen eating there... Char! Till next Lala Aunor.

The new Philippine peso, the same Filipino shit

PNoy (what a horrible monicker) and the BSP unveiled today the new faces and sights featured on our pesos. The revised P500 bill is a family portrait featuring PNoy's parents side-by-side with his signature. Wonder when will they include the image of Ate Kris Aquino being held at gunpoint by Joey Marquez ("Aminin mo Joey, tinutukan mo ko ng baril!") to complete the picture? Peace. I love Ate Kris and Bimby.

The additions to the face of the peso includes images of the Donsol butanding, Palawan underground river, the Taal Lake, Mayon Volcano and the iconic Chocolate Hills. Are these the new tourism campaign materials after the failed Kay Ganda peg?

Let's toast to the new peso and hope its new face will bring an upgrade to its worth.

Lotsa kisses and hugs bitches!

Lola Maria's Fried Chicken and Tapa Rice

One place I love to go for client meetings shall be Lola Maria's at Legend Villas in Mandaluyong.

This place is secluded and you would see many businessmen and politicians holding breakfast or lunch meetings here. Not a very aura place since the ambiance can be updated yet the food is up there.

I love their large serving of Tapa Rice, its a must order. The Lola Maria's fried chicken also rivals that of the Max's Restaurant recipe, this one is more deep fried though with an ample breading. Surely, it tastes great!

If you are in the areas of Valle Verde and Wack-Wack, I'm sure you have encountered this place. The owner of this establishent is also the former Anito Motels now Kabayan Hotel owner. Now I wonder if the Hotel Tycoon has a hunkaboodle son I could somehow date... Hhmm.. Till next Lala Aunor.
